Welcome to the 2016-2017 season

Welcome to all our members for our 2016-2017 season. We’d like parents and members to hold onto this sheet as it contains some important information for the year ahead.

CLUB AGM - WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 12
We will hold our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, October 12, in the Bush Hotel at 9 pm sharp. All parents and members over 16 are more than welcome to attend this very important meeting where we will report on the past year and plan for the year ahead.

TRAINING TIMES
PRIMARY SCHOOL: Tuesday: Athletes aged 8 & 9 5 to 6pm; Athletes aged 10, 11 & 12 6 to 7 pm
POST-PRIMARY: Tuesday: Meet at 6 pm at Sports Complex; Wednesday Gym & Circuits 6 to 7 pm
All sessions are based in or meet at the Sports Complex - Remember there is a €3 weekly fee

CLUB REGULATIONS
  • Parents must check if there is sufficient adult supervision at each training session. If there are less than three adults present, training WILL NOT be held. All athletes must be on time.
  • All athletes must be on time for training. Warm-ups are vital to help avoid injury
  • Athletes must participate in all designated activities at training, unless injured.
  • The use of bad language, spitting, physical assault, verbal abuse or name calling will not be tolerated and may result in a warning and/or instant dismissal from the club.
  • Athletes must wear appropriate training gear (runners, track-suit, shorts, t-shirt).
  • Athletes are requested to respect their fellow athletes, officials, competitors and coaches.
  • Equipment is for club use and no abuse of it will be tolerated.

POST PRIMARY GROUP TRAINING
  1. Meeting point for all training is the Sports Complex and all athletes must be on time and have their weekly fees paid before 6 pm
  2. The  group will leave from the Sports Complex at 6.05 sharp. If you are late, details as to training venue will be left with a club official in the Complex.
  3. Athletes must participate in all designated activities at training, unless injured. Training groups are divided based on ability, experience and what events athletes are aiming for. If an athlete is injured or unable to complete a session, they must return immediately to the Sports Complex.
  4. Provided the warm-up starts on time, athletes should be back in the Complex by 7.15 after Tuesday sessions.

ONE-WAY TRAFFIC SYSTEM
The management of Carrick-on-Shannon Sports Complex have asked us to point out to the parents of all our members that a ONE-WAY SYSTEM operates in the car park of the Complex.
All motorists MUST enter by the entrance on the main road and exit by the entrance nearest Aura Leitrim Leisure.
With the safety of our members our primary concern, we ask that all motorists exercise the utmost caution in the Complex car park particularly at 5pm and 6pm when there are a lot of young children entering and exiting the Complex.
A failure to do so would see the car park closed for our member's use in the future.

CLUB SHOP
We have teamed up to JOMA/Teamwear Ireland to offer a range of club gear through an Online Shop. Athletes/parents can order gear if and when they want and deal directly with the online shop.
The only item not on the Online Store is the Club Vest which can be purchased through the Club.

National Juvenile Track & Field

Well done to everyone who competed last weekend at the GloHealth Athletics Ireland Juvenile Championships in Tullamore, a busy couple of days for all our athletes.

Our top finisher was Ellis Conway who reached the U16 100m with a time of 13.25 in the heats where she finished 4th while she ran 13.40 in the final to finish eighth. Ellis was also in action on Sunday in the 200m where she finished tenth overall, her time of 27.34, also a new pb, leaving her 10th overall but unfortunately outside the final.

Caitlin Surlis was also in action in the same javelin and shot competitions, finishing 9th in the Shot with a throw of 8.60m and 11th in the javelin with 20.87m.

Emma O’Connell threw 8.82m to finish 13th in the U14 Girls Shot.

In the short sprints, Gerard Murtagh was closest to qualifying for the final, his time of 8.77 just 0.06 away from a place in the U12 60m Final while Sophie McCabe ran 11.34 in the U13 80m where she finished 13th overall

Oliver Charles was 15th overall in the U14 80m with 10.83 while Callum Whelan ran 12.36 in his U19 100m. Shauna McCabe was 15th overall in the U17 100m in a time of 13.77 while Fiachra O’Dowd ran 24.03 to finish 6th in his U18 200m heat.

Well done to everyone and special thanks to all the parents who travelled down to Tullamore to cheer on the gang.

Well done to our three relay teams who were in action on Saturday at the Glo Health National Juvenile Relays in Tullamore.
The U17 Girls were our top finishers as they finished eighth in a straight final, the team of Clodagh Sheerin, Anna Corcoran, Kasey Bruen and Shauna McCabe recording a time of 54.23.
Our U13 Boys team of Patrick Charles, Emmett Regan, Daniel Martin and Toyosi Fagbo finished 13th out of 18 teams with a strong time of 56.39 seconds while our U12 Boys team finished 17th in another tough heat in a time of 61.19.
Well done to all the teams who took part and special thanks to the parents who drove down with the athletes, we literally wouldn't get there without you!

Eanna off to Amsterdam after National Senior 200m victory

Congratulations to Eanna Madden who has been picked for the Irish team for the European Track & Field Championships next week in Amsterdam after a fabulous victory in the 200m at the Glo Health Athletics Ireland Senior Track & Field Championships in Morton Stadium Dublin last Saturday.
Eanna won the 200m title with a clear-cut victory in a time of 21.37 seconds, despite suffering a hamstring strain midway through the race. It is his second Senior 200m title going with the title he shared two years ago with David Hynes of Menapians but there was never any danger of that as he dominated from gun to tape, despite his injury scare.
The victory saw Eanna confirm his place on the Irish 4 x 100m team for the European Seniors in Amsterdam as he joins up with Marcus Lawler, Jason Smyth, Jonathan Browning, Craig Lynch and Joseph Owejumi in the six man squad.
The relays will take place on Saturday, July 9, with the heats and the final on Sunday, July 10, and we wish Eanna and his team-mates the very best of luck.
Unfortunately, last weekend also saw the end of the dream for Gerard O'Donnell who has had his season blighted by injury. Gerard had one "B" time in the 110m hurdles and looked set to get the required second in early May when he injured his hamstring and tendons.
Gerard fought a tremendously battle in an effort to regain fitness but it was not to be in what is a huge disappointment for an incredibly dedicated and focussed athlete. We know he will be back again.
Also in action in Santry last Saturday was Caitlin Surlis who threw 28.55m to finish an excellent eighth in the Javelin competition at the Tailteann Games.

The next generation of Carrick AC stars is in action on Sunday, July 3, when Dara Holmes and Diarmuid O'Connell compete in the U11 Turbo Javelin competition in Tullamore.
Also in Tullamore, but on Saturday, Cathal McElgunn competes in the U23 400m event at the National U23 & Junior Championships.
Best of luck to Cathal, Dara and Diarmuid.
